Become a Referee!

Soccer referees are an important part of the game. Referees help keep matches safe, fair, fun, and organized for players of all ages. Becoming a referee is a great way to stay involved in soccer, build confidence and leadership skills, earn extra income, and give back to the local soccer community. Whether you are a current player, former player, parent, or simply love the game, refereeing is a rewarding opportunity with flexible scheduling and valuable life experience.

Referee Certification Requirements

Minimum Age

  • 13 years old
  • No experience required

Online Training

  • Educational Training – Online Module (courses by U.S. Soccer Learning Center) — approximately 5 hours
  • Intro to Health & Safety — approximately 30 minutes
  • SafeSport Training (18 and older) — approximately 1 hour
  • Background Check (18 and older) — required submission forms

On-Field Training

  • Field Session (in-person, one-day training) — approximately 3–4 hours
