Recreation Program

EPYSL Recreation League

EPYSL's Recreation League is the core program of the League, introducing and expanding the game of soccer to at least 450 players each season.  Our Fall rec league is part of the CYSA Recreational Playing League where the emphasis is on exposure to the game, having fun and ensuring that players get ample opportunity to have field playing time.

Hosting approximately 40 teams each year, the Fall rec season opens August 1 with teams from Copperopolis, Angels Camp, Murphys, Arnold and Bear Valley training at least two days per week on various fields within the Leagues boundaries.

This year our rec players and coaches are all encouraged to attend our 5th annual EPYSL's UK International Training Camp for 5 intensive days of soccer instruction August 8 - 12, 2016.

Regular season games begin each year on Saturday's in mid August and continue weekly until early November.  For our U10 and higher divisions, EPYSL partners with the Calaveras Youth Soccer League (CYSA) and the Linden Youth Soccer Association (LYSA) to offer a wider variety of team play.  Games with our interleague partners will again be hosted at Feeney Park, Toyon Middle School and at Linden Elementary.

EPYSL Winter League - U10 and higher divisional Fall rec league players are highly encouraged to consider attending our Off Season League Tryouts scheduled for Sunday, October 15 at Feeney Park.  Winter League is a 6 week extension of our fall rec season and is an opportunity for rec players to participate in a higher level of play by competing against teams thought District VIII during January and February each year.  For more information, visit our Competitve Programs page.

EPYSL Founder's Cup State Tournament - All U10 and higher divisional rec players are encouraged to culminate the end of the rec season by attending CYSA's Founder's Cup tournament in early December.  Over 125 rec teams come together each December to test their skills against other Northern California soccer programs in this exciting weekend of soccer.  Contact us for more questions.

Registration for our Fall rec league opens April 1, 2016.

2016 US Soccer Initiatives - Overview

Starting this Fall 2016, all members of U.S. Soccer, including EPYSL, will begin to transition their programs in two critical ares to encourage further youth skill development.

Small-Sided Games

With small-sided standards, US Soccer is trying to help players further develop by putting them in an environment where they are constantly involved in the play.

The benefits of Small-Sided Games for players include more fun, more touches on the ball and more tactical decisions. The style of play will allow players to learn different positions, learn tactics quicker, increase fitness and allow players to be more emotionally and socially involved — creating a more fun and enjoyable game.

Small-Sided Games will include specific changes to field size, goal size and rules. The result will be a decrease in 11-vs-11 competitions in lieu of more 9-vs-9 (U12), 7-vs-7 (U10) and 4-vs-4 (U6, U8) competitions.

Calendar Year

Also effective this year, the grouping of players will also change nationwide. U.S. Soccer will go back to calendar birth years to align with international standards and Youth National Team programs.  Changes in birth-year registration will also make age groups easier to understand, while aligning the US Soccer calendar with the international calendar.
