The Ebbetts Pass Youth Soccer League (EPYSL) administers recreational and competitive youth soccer programming on a seasonal basis over the course of the annual seasonal playing year for over 500 local children 4 - 18 years of age from the communities of Bear Valley, Arnold, Murphys, Angels Camp and Copperopolis.
As a part of the California Youth Soccer Association and a member of District VIII, EPYSL participates in a host of state and District programs including the Cal Soccer League (CCSL), the District VIII Champions Cup, the Cal Noth Founder’s Cup, the Bill Meyer and Jim Frazier Leagues and more.
EPYSL remains committed to long term coach and player development and is proud to have partnered with the British Challenger League Training Program, the Cal North Coaching Clinic and Licensing Program, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the Bear Valley Soccer Camp, US Club, the Cal North Olympic Development Program (ODP) and others to promote the advancement of skills and training of our coaches and players.
Starting this Fall 2016, all members of U.S. Soccer, including EPYSL, will begin to transition their programs in two critical ares to encourage further youth skill development.
With small-sided standards, US Soccer is trying to help players further develop by putting them in an environment where they are constantly involved in the play.
The benefits of Small-Sided Games for players include more fun, more touches on the ball and more tactical decisions. The style of play will allow players to learn different positions, learn tactics quicker, increase fitness and allow players to be more emotionally and socially involved — creating a more fun and enjoyable game.
Small-Sided Games will include specific changes to field size, goal size and rules. The result will be a decrease in 11-vs-11 competitions in lieu of more 9-vs-9 (U12), 7-vs-7 (U10) and 4-vs-4 (U6, U8) competitions.
Also effective this year, the grouping of players will also change nationwide. U.S. Soccer will go back to calendar birth years to align with international standards and Youth National Team programs. Changes in birth-year registration will also make age groups easier to understand, while aligning the US Soccer calendar with the international calendar.
